East Lancashire Railway

2009 timetable available soon.

The East Lancashire Railway is the longest preserved railway in North West England; the line radiates from the main station at Bury Bolton Street to Ramsbottom and Rawtenstall to the north and Heywood to the east. Steam trains (with some diesel trains also operating on most days) travel from Heywood, with evidence of Lancashire's rich industrial past on both sides of the line until Bury is reached. Once north of the town, the line threads its way through the beautiful Lancashire countryside, following the River Irwell through the market town of Ramsbottom to the terminus at Rawtenstall.

A classic diesel locomotive arrives at a snow-covered Heywood station
