South Tynedale Railway

2009 Timetable available shortly

The South Tynedale Railway is a fine example of a narrow gauge line, and is the highest of its kind in England. Steam trains run on many dates throughout the year, with additional days where trains are diesel-hauled. The narrow gauge line was opened in 1983, on the route of a former standard gauge line, and at present visitors can enjoy a 40-minute trip on the 2¼ mile long railway through the spectacular landscape of the South Tyne Valley between Alston and Kirkhaugh.
