Lynton & Barnstaple Railway

The Lynton and Barnstaple Railway is one of the fondly-remembered lines from the holidays of our grandparents and great-grandparents. The original narrow (2 foot) gauge line from Lynton to Barnstaple opened in 1898 and was closed by the Southern Railway in 1935. During the 1990s work began on restoring the line, and at present steam trains run on a mile of track through some spectacular Devon scenery between Woody Bay and Killington Lane. Work on extending the line is expected to start during the course of 2009.
