The South Devon Railway runs steam trains along the 7-mile line through unspoilt countryside through the valley of the River Dart between Buckfastleigh and Totnes. Enjoy the authentic Great Western atmosphere of this beautiful railway from period carriages. The museum, children's play area, refreshment rooms and the connecting heritage bus service to other nearby attractions make visiting this line an action packed full day out! All train tickets issued on normal operating days are Day Rovers - pay once and ride all day! (Exclusions apply to special events.)

Buckfastleigh is situated mid-way between Exeter and Plymouth on the A38 in the heart of Devon. Leave at the Dart Bridge junction and follow the brown tourist signs.

THE STATION REFRESHMENT ROOMS - Buckfastleigh. A wide range of hot and cold meals, drinks and snacks. Ice cream also available.

TOTNES LITTLEHEMPSTON - A coffee shop (not railway-operated) is located at the neighbouring Totnes Rare Breeds Farm

A buffet service, serving hot and cold drinks and cold snacks is available on most service trains.

 
PICNIC FACILITIES are available on site at Buckfastleigh.
         
FACILITIES FOR DISABLED VISITORS and FAMILIES WITH PRAMS OR PUSHCHAIRS:
 

Most areas of the railway have excellent disabled access, with easy, step-free platform entrances, access to catering facilities, disabled lavatories and access to the Museum. Most importantly, specially adapted coaches are available on trains for the use of mobility-impaired passengers.

The workshop viewing area is unfortunately not accessible for wheelchairs.

 
 
 
FAMILY FACILITIES:
  A baby change facility is available at both Buckfastleigh and Totnes Littlehempston stations, and a children's play area is situated at Buckfastleigh. Plenty of children's gifts are available in the well-stocked gift shop.
 
 
OTHER FACILITIES:

Books, DVDs, postcards and other small gifts are also available in the shop . The Museum is normally open on operating days.

Public access to the railway's workshops is normally available, but restricted to a viewing gallery.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT CONNECTIONS
 

The South Devon Railway is easily accessible by public transport.

A heritage bus service is available on certain operating days throughout the season, linking Buckfastleigh station with Buckfast Abbey and Buckfastleigh town.

Visitors can catch a train to the nearby Totnes National Rail Network station; the South Devon Railway is then just a 500 yard walk.

Buckfastleigh is served by the Stagecoach Devon X38 Exeter - Plymouth bus service.

Totnes is served by the Stagecoach Devon X64 Exeter - Kingsbridge and First Devon & Cornwall X80/X81 Torquay - Plymouth bus services. Other bus services also available.
