National Railway Museum

A vast array of locomotives, coaches and wagons from the past two centuries is housed in the National Railway Museum in York. Famous steam engines such as the 'Flying Scotsman', 'Mallard' and 'Duchess of Hamilton' rub shoulders with other more modern transport icons such as the Japanese Bullet Train and the prototype High Speed Train. A selection of vintage carriages, including some from the Royal Trains of the past, are also on display. Visit the museum for a fun-filled family day out. The best news is that entry to the museum is free on most days of the year (a charge may apply on certain special event days).
